Kelly Pope was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where some of her science teachers weren’t afraid to be honest about the impact climate change would have on her home state. She has been in art schools half her life, studying classical fine arts while in grade school, and took on cultural studies in addition to conceptual art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The rift between nature and culture has been both a point of intrigue and internal conflict in her work. While attending SAIC, Kelly led the Student Environmental Activism Club and helped organize the group to get to Washington, DC for Power Shift 2011. In Chicago, Kelly works with the Chicago Youth Climate Coalition and Rising Tide Chicago to increase awareness of Chicago’s climate and environmental justice issues.
