Why Do I Want to Bike Across America? |
|||
I believe this journey will be an eye opening adventure for us all and, in addition to biking; we plan to spread awareness for nicotine addiction and lung cancer. A few of my closest friends have fallen into nicotine addiction over the past few years and I realize that verbally expressing my concerns to them is often not enough. When I was approached with the opportunity to bike across America this summer with this awareness in mind I realized that this is my chance to act on my concern as I hope to inspire them to stop. In this nine-week journey we will form a team much larger than the four of us. Our team will include any one who is personally fighting, or may have loved ones fighting, through the journey of nicotine addiction and/or lung cancer. |

Biography: |

From to moment I began studying Sociology and Anthropology at Washington College in 2002 I knew that a life long journey of traveling was ahead of me. A great passion of mine is to observe other people while traveling and absorbing as many different perspectives as possible. I absolutely love what traveling does to my understanding of who we all are, where we come from, and what we plan to do with our future. This passion has led me to a variety of service projects in various communities around the United States. In the summers of 2000 and 2001 I went on a mission trip with my church youth group out to North Dakota where we led a summer camp for children on a Native American Reservation. The following summer of 2002 I participated in another mission trip to West Virginia where we painted and restored houses in a former coal mining community of West Virginia. |
